Build a rogue Sprint cooldown addon for WoW Forever

Sometimes the addon you want is just one little signal. A Sprint indicator is a useful design exercise: make the important state easy to see, without adding another large window to your interface.

THE QUICK ANSWER

Ask for a small indicator with text as well as color, and define a fallback for cooldown information the game cannot safely expose.

A WoW addon does not need a visible box

An addon can use an icon, a texture, a text label, several separate UI elements, or no persistent visual element at all. A frame in the code does not require a painted window background. Ask for a transparent layout if you want the signal to sit directly over your game view.

For a Sprint helper, begin with a small light and short text. Green plus READY is easier to interpret than color alone. Keep the size adjustable and make the initial location obvious so the first preview is easy to assess.

Define ready, waiting, and unavailable states

If supported cooldown data is accessible, describe how readiness should look and what should happen during the cooldown. Include an unknown state for missing or restricted data, and specify what happens when the character does not know Sprint.

Do not ask the AI to infer a true ready state from a visual swipe alone. If the target client cannot expose the necessary value, ask for an approved native cooldown display instead. The exact implementation must be checked in your client.

Inspect the indicator in the preview

The useful questions are visual and behavioral: can you find the indicator immediately, read the label, and move it without accidentally resizing it? Focus addon makes a small element easier to inspect; Full canvas shows its position relative to the available screen.

Use the preview’s supported game-state controls to exercise available states. Live updates are optional. A static rendered frame is enough to inspect spacing and appearance; you do not need a constantly refreshing view just to decide whether the light is the right size.

Test on your rogue before relying on it

Install the generated addon, use Sprint, and watch what happens as the cooldown begins and ends. Repeat after reloading and changing zones. If the addon must behave during combat, verify that separately.

  1. Start with the indicator centered and confirm it is visible.
  2. Check READY and WAIT when the client supports those states.
  3. Move it and reload to verify the saved position.
  4. Test an unavailable ability or unsupported data state.
  5. Check readability at the UI scale you actually use.

A prompt to get you started

Create a small draggable Sprint indicator for my rogue in WoW Forever. Use a green light with READY and a red light with WAIT only when supported cooldown data can be inspected. If the data is unavailable or restricted, show UNKNOWN or a supported native cooldown display instead. No enclosing window. Start centered, save the position, and keep the text readable.
