Describe one behavior, build the smallest useful version, and test it in the preview and the game before adding more features.
Give your first addon one job
A personal quest notebook is a better first project than an entire interface replacement. A good starting idea has a clear input and a visible result: type a note and save it, click a checklist item and mark it complete, or drag a label to move it.
Write down what success looks like before you generate anything. This gives you something concrete to check and makes follow-up requests much easier to explain.
Describe behavior, appearance, and control
A useful prompt tells the builder what happens, what the addon looks like, and how you interact with it. Include what should happen when information is unavailable. You can ask for an icon or text label without a window around it.
- Purpose: what problem does this solve for your character or guild?
- Appearance: size, color, text, and initial position.
- Controls: dragging, buttons, slash commands, or keyboard focus.
- Persistence: which settings or notes should survive your next login?
- Boundaries: what should the addon do when the game does not expose the requested information?
Build, then inspect the result
ForeverMods plans a new addon, writes the Lua and TOC files, and checks their syntax. Your five free credits cover one Standard build without signup. Standard creation and follow-up edits cost five credits; Thorough costs twenty. Planning and automatic validation repairs are included.
Read the summary and compatibility notes. Open Source code to see exactly what you will install. The preview runs the generated Lua through wow-ui-sim; it is useful for layout and interaction checks, but simulated game state cannot establish live-client compatibility.
Ask for one clear change at a time
Describe the difference you want: “make the label 20 percent smaller” or “keep the window hidden until I type the slash command.” Specific edits are easier to assess than “make it better.” Your saved project keeps its conversation and recent versions.
Create a free account when you want to keep your trial workspace across devices. Your addon, versions, chat, and remaining trial balance move to the account together; signing up does not restart the trial.
Make the final test in WoW Forever
Download the ZIP or use Install to WoW in a supported desktop browser. Enable the addon in the intended client, test the promised behavior, reload the interface, and check that saved settings return. Keep a working copy before making a bigger change.
If the addon fails, bring back the exact Lua error, the action that triggered it, and whether it happened in the simulator or the game. That is a much better repair request than a screenshot with no explanation.
A prompt to get you started
